Good food is at the heart of Underwood House. Part of the reason is that proprietor and executive chef, is on hand to guide the kitchen in new and exciting dishes, and second is the talent and enthusiastic passion our small team have for local produce, Berries and asparagus in the spring, melons and fresh lettuce greens in the summer, peaches and tomatoes in later summer, squash, fingerling potatoes and carrots in Autumn. The close communication we have with our farmer-suppliers, has allowed us to plan for the seasons, and also know what to expect when we are changing up the menu, which we do weekly or even daily depending on the season.
Underwood House has light, stylish bedrooms, including one fabulous two-room suite. All have modern en-suite bathrooms. We are neither a country house hotel in the ruched-curtain, prohibitively expensive sense, nor a boutique hotel where cutting-edge design precludes hospitality – or functionality. Our aim is to offer a relaxing atmosphere with thoughtful, smiling service; interesting food that respects the seasons; and comfortable bedrooms with good beds. The Lake District itself does the rest.
Our unique hotel is a beautifully restored Victorian vicarage, and the perfect destination for people who want a hideaway hotel in a western English Lake District location.
